CHICOS Data Set

I wrote some code which loops over a range of angles and energy cuts and finds the combination which maximizes the correlation between data above the energy cut and AGN.

AGN Correlation Macro

ROOT file with results for all energies and angles

I looped over angle windows from 1 to 10 degrees in increments of 0.1 degrees.
I looped over energy cutoffs from 10^19 to 10^20 in increments of 0.1 x 10^19. Z cutoff = 0.018

The program first calculates "p" which is the fraction of the sky covered by the AGN windows, weighted by the exposure based on the set of simulated showers.

The following plot shows how p scales with angle window. There is almost no variation with energy cutoff.

The following plots shows the correlation parameter P as a function of angle for all energies, and as a function of energy for all angles.

The value of P is minimized for an angle window of 5.5 degrees and an energy cutoff of 4.5 x 10^19. The minimum value of P is 0.032, which corresponds to a 3.2% probability of an isotropic distribution producing a greater correlation. There are 16/27 events which are correlated with AGN given these parameters.

For comparison, here are the scans which correspond to the values found by Auger's exploratory scan:

Here is a sky map of the AGN data and the CHICOS showers (with energy cut off of 4.5 x 10^19).
